Take a Lesson

For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning."(KJV, Romans 15:4)

In my Bible reading in the book of Ezekiel this morning, I was captured by Chapter 14, Verse 14. This is what the verse said:
Even though these three men Noah, Daniel, and Job were in its midst, by their own righteousness they could only deliver themselves declares the Lord God. (This chapter goes on to say that the righteousness that these three men had would not be enough to cover their own sons and daughters and certainly not enough to save a wicked city.)

Now, I don't know about you, but that verse bothered me.

What Heightened My Level of Concern

I remember from some earlier reading of the scripture that there was a man (Abraham)  trying to save a wicked city and he kept bargaining and asking the LORD if the city could be saved for so many righteous persons. The bottom line was that the city was destroyed because not even ten righteous could be found.

Well, I reasoned within myself that our country (despite the turmoil and climate of hatred)  was okay because we certainly have more than ten righteous, and so, I thought that the many could be saved because of the few. But that verse above put paid to that thought.

And too, when you read further in Ezekiel 16, you see this verse:
Behold this was the guilt of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had arrogance, abundant food, and careless ease, but she did not help the poor and needy. (The bold print and underlining here is not a part of the Biblical text; I just did it for emphasis sake.)

With this pandemic, has the plight of the needy, homeless, and the poor, gotten worse? Some Biblical parallels (historical ones, too) are disquietening for sure.

Bottomline

Let's all make sure that we are one of the righteous so that the number grows because our numbers certainly do not grow with the espousal of hate and violence.

Just something for you to think about as we battle our way through these pandemic and hate-filled times, or should I say, attention-getting times

Take a Lesson

I told you what I thought
That you should do
But I’m only held responsible
For me, and not for you.©
