I Won’t I Won’t

Sometimes, the race you are running

Seems to be all uphill

And sometimes, the going can be so arduous

That you grind to a halt and say

"I won't; I won't; I won't!"

Only to be firmly shown

"Oh, but you will."

Now, Y'all know that my husband is a preacher

Who has been preaching some 40 years

And, as his wife, I have had to shed

Quite a few tears.

But, I learned early on that

Because of the position he was in

People would look at me as an available

Jab cushion and whenever he said or did

Something that made them mad, they would

Give the old pincushion a jab, as if to say,

"Take that, and no use complaining about it

For I am not a fool because I hid

The deed behind a smile, anyway."

Now before he became a preacher

I could hold my own

And I didn't take much from anybody

After I got grown.

But, all that changed when he

Became a preacher man

For I had to learn the meaning of

"I can't, but GOD can."

I couldn't change their hearts about

Whatever unreasonable thing they were about

So, I used prayer and watched GOD work things out.

Sometimes, it only took a modicum of effort

For folk to see another's point of view

And sometimes, it took so much that

I shuddered at what the LORD put some folks through

And still, at other times, the aggressor seemed to win

And all I could do was bow my head, humble my spirit

And, in tears, walk away with chagrin

To their smirks, whisperings, and titters as

My spirit was rekindled to continue

To work toward my journey's end.

But through all of my years as a preacher's wife

I learned to lean on GOD and that there were

Some things that I could only say to HIM

Because choosing the health of the church

Was to choose the greater good!

For at those times I thought to myself

"When GOD looks at this situation, what will HE see?"

And I decided within myself, "Well, when whipping

"When GOD looks at this situation, what will HE see?"

And I decided within myself, "Well, when whipping

Time comes, I am going to conduct myself so that

HE does not have to include me."©

For the Greater Good

For the greater good

Each of us gives of ourselves

To get things to turn out as they should.©

HE Got Up

 Joy is mine

In the time of trials

Or sorrow and woe

Because I have a SAVIOR

WHO got up one day, you know.

Visited by sorrow

Sickness or pain

But, because HE got up

I shall have joy again.

HIS love for me brought

HIM down from glory

So that He could rewrite the

End of my story.

And while this life, at times, may

Bring me sickness and grief

I know that this is temporary

Because I'm going home one day.

And when I reach up

Into my arsenal of faith

I can don my mantle of joy

That this world cannot understand

And I can strut my stuff

As I prate about my GOD

WHO loves me from on high

And is preparing for me a

Home in the sky.

HE loved me so much that HE

Got up when HE conquered death

And told me that HE would

Come back to get me before HE left.

So, I can walk among chaos

And what have you

But nothing can take the anticipatory joy

That reigns in my soul with the

Knowledge of my GOD's love

And I know what it is to

Have hope that the world cannot take away

Because HE got up and HE's coming

Back for me one day!

And whenever hopelessness tries to assail me

I remember that the GOD WHO got up

Reigns in victory

Moved Heaven and earth because He loved me

Walked down through the cosmos

Spoke to winds, shut up the sea

Walked on water, etc. all because

HE said HE would meet me in Gallilee!

My hope remains in the LORD! And if you shake me until my head flops like a ragdoll, I'll still be mewling to my GOD. And when HE decides that enough is enough, I would hate to follow in the footsteps that some men have trod, for, after all, GOD is GOD!

Until

When GOD's angels walk the land

To carry out HIS commands

I am reminded of just how helpless I am

And that I exist because HE holds my hand.

18,000 souls was the total number

Of deaths given yesterday

And I was troubled to my core

And thought, "GOD help the USA

Can we stand much more?"

Then I read Psalm 123 and said

"Before YOU, FATHER, I have no pride

Because my life, to YOU, is a book open wide

And by YOUR laws I try to abide

But the assault of this virus brings to mind

Horrors read of concerning World War II

And while I know that our saving grace

Is dependent upon YOU

FATHER, when I saw the pauper's graves dug

With wooden body-filled casket boxes

Lined up side by side

My soul wept with horror as soul tears I cried

And I came running, in my mind, to YOUR side

To say, 'FATHER, please stay YOUR hand

And take the Covid-19 Virus away,

Yet, not my will, but THINE be done

But, please be mindful of us vessels of clay

And strengthen us for the days to come.'"

"For I know that when their work is through

YOU will tell YOUR angels to stay their hand

And I thank YOU for being mindful of the fact

That we are depending on YOU

As we run to shelter under YOUR wings

While YOUR work is being done and

Hatred, malice, and greed are driven from our lands.

And we know that this blight, too, shall pass

And that, with the tenderness that only YOU can give

We will be tended and comforted as we

Walk on and, for YOU, continue to live."

To America and the world's lands

We will make it because GOD in Heaven

Holds our hands.©

The ONE WHO Made Heaven and Earth

"MY hurt is too great for me

My enemies are too great for me."

Oh, LORD, while these things be

I know that nothing is impossible for THEE.

But, I know that YOUR love is constant

Because YOU have carried me from an infant

And I have, at long last, learned

That as long as, on this earth, I remain

YOU,  just as YOU have always been

Will remain my keeper and my FRIEND.

In times now and in recorded times that have been

I take comfort in the fact that I am

Reminded to look to the hills and remember

That the MAKER of the hills, mountains

Valleys, the sea and all

Never sleeps and is ever able and ready

To answer my mewling call.

Yes, I take comfort in YOUR presence

And offer thanksgiving and praise to YOU

As I think on marvel on, and prate about

The things that YOU, my FATHER, can do.

And though I never saw the hills skip

Nor saw the oceans flee

And never saw the Jordan turn back

Nor heard creation's praise song to YOU outpour

I know by reading YOUR word that

YOU, powerful and praiseworthy FATHER

By YOUR mere presence, can

Do all these things and more!

"MY hurt is too great for me

My enemies are too great for me."

Oh, LORD, though these things be

I shall remember from this time forth

That nothing is impossible for THEE,

FATHER of me and all that be!©

Psalm 121:1-2 King James Version (KJV)

1 I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. (I raise my eyes toward the sky and ask in mewling simplicity, "FATHER, help me, please...")

My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. (Then I acknowledge HIM and thank HIM for HIS presence in my life and for HIS healing my wounded heart and for HIS giving me the stamina to go on...) (Somebody might say, "I don't see all of that in that verse," but to that I say, "This is my take on the verse and since I was using this verse as a part of my prayer, don't you know that the Spirit that dwells within us 'knows the thoughts and intents of our hearts and utters prayers with words that can scarce be uttered?'")

Because I Know

Because I know that THY ordinances and

THY word is settled in heaven

Might overtake our land

Because I know that by THY

And shall remain unmovable

As long as this earth is

Inhabited by the children of man

How Do I Make It

Sometimes life can hit you so hard that you feel

Like you don't have the stamina anymore to go

Because it will sneak in and take

A gift most precious, you know

And you find yourself reeling from the blow

Like a drunken man

Who has been hit with a knockout punch

As your world totters as you reel to and fro.

But I can stand and say

"Take heart, being of clay

The sun will shine again

For you one day

And you will find that you

Have been equipped to help others

Who are reeling because

They, too, have had a gift most precious taken away."©

When Angels of GOD Walk the Land

Oh, what changes are wrought for man

When angels of GOD walk the land

The words above came to my mind as I read from Psalm 116 and 117 today and thought about the lovingkindness of GOD in hearing HIS children's prayers and sending deliverance.

Below are some scriptural examples of when HE has provided deliverance and or protection for His children:

Genesis 19:1 Now the two angels came to Sodom in the evening as Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom When Lot saw them, he rose to meet them and bowed down with his face to the ground.

Exodus 23:20 "Behold, I am going to send an angel before you to guard you along the way and to bring you into the place which I have prepared.

Daniel 6:22 "My God sent His angel and shut the lions' mouths and they have not harmed me, inasmuch as I was found innocent before Him; and also toward you, O king, I have committed no crime."

Luke 1:26 Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city in Galilee called Nazareth,

Genesis 32:1

Now as Jacob went on his way, the angels of God met him.

Genesis 28:12

He had a dream, and behold, a ladder was set on the earth with its top reaching to heaven; and behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.

Hebrews 1:14 King James Version (KJV)

14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?

I like to read and think about GOD's deliverance of man, especially in times like the one in which we currently find ourselves. And so, I know that prayer works because it is ordained by GOD, and the presence of the angels underscores the fact of the lovingkindness that GOD has for us if we remain faithful unto death.

So this poem of mine says to all who will listen that GOD can and will listen to HIS children because HE is ever-mindful of their needs, tears, desires, trust, faith, and dependence on HIM.

Oh, what changes are wrought for man

When angels of GOD walk the land

Because the saint's prayers and pleas

Have caused GOD to send a release.

And I will praise HIM for all times

As I hope all nations will

Because HE heard our prayers

Saw our distress and sent HIS angels

To take charge of this Covid19 time.©

When the Hedges Come Down

They Will Be Put Up Again

I remember when I was a toddler learning to walk

I would take a few tentative steps

Away from Momma or daddy and then

Make a U-turn and go back to the safety

Of their arms again.

They were my learned safety net

According to my toddler mentality

And years later, my Momma introduced me to Jesus

And He became my lifelong reality.

I went to places that people didn't

Think I should have been able to go

And did things that some of the best

Could not figure out and wanted to know

How this little snippet of a nobody from nowhere

Could sail through some things without a seeming care.

It was something that I had always

Been able to do

Because I had been taught by life and by my Momma

That GOD would always bring me through.

I did not fully realize that I had

Hedges around me while I learned to trust in GOD

You see, I didn't know that one day

I would get into a skirmish and run back to the hedges

Only to find that they had been taken away.

It was then that I got to know and feel

Things, to me, that here to fore

Were, not even known to be real.

I remember that I looked toward Heaven

From down on my knees

And through streaming eyes, asked my GOD

To "Have mercy on me

Because a broken, dispirited child I be."

During the times that the hedges were gone

I became acquainted with my new "reality"

And it was not like anything I had ever known

And I did not like it, no siree

Because the problems were there when I lay down to sleep

And were there when I awakened ere I heard the birds cheep.

I know, now, that my times on my knees in the valleys

Were allowed to toughen me and to teach me

To trust in GOD, no matter the lay of the land

And to have the message emblazoned in my heart

That it is down on my knees that

My FATHER teaches me to stand.

And so, America, and all of the world's lands

I say to you, "Hold on to HIS hand

Because, since we are down on our knees

HE is teaching us to stand.

And when the hedges begin to be put back in place...

Aw-w glory, how sweet it is and how sweet 'twill be

To be hedged in again by the GOD

WHO made, knows, and loves you and me.

This will happen after we become acclimatized

To a teaching reality

And remember, the lessons taught for each man

Are not necessarily taught to be learned the same

As that of another man, for some are taught trust

And perseverance, while others are taught in humility's name.©

Trust in HIS Timing - Rely on HIS Promises

The Lord Praised for His Goodness.

111 Praise the Lord!
I will give thanks to the Lord with all my heart,
In the company of the upright and in the assembly.
Great are the works of the Lord;
They are studied by all who delight in them.
Splendid and majestic is His work,
And His righteousness endures forever.
He has made His wonders to be remembered;
The Lord is gracious and compassionate.
He has given ood to those who fear Him;
He will remember His covenant forever.
He has made known to His people the power of His works,
In giving them the heritage of the nations.

The works of His hands are truth and justice;
All His precepts are sure.
They are upheld forever and ever;
They are performed in truth and uprightness.
He has sent redemption to His people;
He has ordained His covenant forever;
Holy and awesome is His name.
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
A good understanding have all those who do His commandments;
His praise endures forever.

I am going to perform my job

Because it was given me to do

And I will be doing it until

My living down here is through.©

I Can’t Even Walk without HIM Holding My Hand

Sometimes like Jonah, we are so low that we have to learn that there is no level or place that we can be that HE cannot hear and heal us.

To My America and All

Psalm 109:22

22For I am afflicted and needy,
And my heart is wounded within me.

A great many parts of our world are hurting at this time... My prayers and condolences go out to all who have lost loves ones or have sick ones at this time.

Due to the coronavirus, most of our hearts are filled with concern. This time is like no other that I have experienced in its wide-spread scope. But, there have been times that have affected me just as badly, and from those times I learned, like the words of the song verse below, that:

"I can't even walk without YOU holding my hand

For it was down on my knees

That I learned to stand."

When I'm down in the trenches on my knees

I've learned that it is there that

YOU mold me and reshape me as YOU please

And bring me forth, a soldier strengthened

With a resolve brand new

To always remember that though I am a man

Of clay, I can do all things as long

As YOU hold my hand

And to always, always be mindful of the fact

That it was down on my knees

Where YOU taught me to stand.

And to the world, I can present a soldier bold

Who has known THY lovingkindness of old

And WHO remembers that it is on my knees

That I get renewed strength to stand,

So, praise to YOU, LORD, GOD of man

For remembering us with mercy and loving us, too

And teaching us that we can depend on YOU.©

Prayer Baby

Thanking GOD in Heaven for HIS lovingkindness!

A Blessed Good Morning to you all!

We have a lot to cover this morning, so I will get right to it.

Y'all know me well enough to know that I used to be a crybaby. That was the way I was when my daddy left us when I was a little bitty girl, not even school age. But, Y'all know, too, that I learned about prayer through my Momma, a preacher's daughter. I became a fierce child of prayer and, as a woman grown, still am. The road that I have traveled has been at time arduous and long, but I made it. No, I did not make it through any power of my own. I made it by the grace of GOD. I learned that HE has lovingkindness that the world cannot surpass nor understand, and HE extended that lovingkindness to me. HE let me know what it was to pray an earnest prayer and get an answer. HE hid me under the shadow of HIS wings as HE trained me to lean on HIM. And, yes, it is a lesson that I learned very well. That is why, today, as an adult, I take all of my problems to HIM in prayer. And as have most of you, been praying about the Coronavirus. So here is what I learned upon coming awake in the wee hours of the morning:

Texas 'mom and pop' business flooded with orders for helmet ventilators amid coronavirus crisis

Sea-Long Medical Systems has drawn huge interest from hospitals and foreign countries seeking alternatives in treating COVID-19 patients amid a ventilator shortage.

One month ago, Chris Austin was running a little-known mom-and-pop business in Texas that fielded a few dozen orders a week for his helmet-style ventilation devices.

He had five employees and a handful of volunteers from the family's church who would pitch in at the workshop behind their home in the small town of Waxahachie.

Then the coronavirus epidemic hit.

Austin's company, Sea-Long Medical Systems Inc., is getting thousands of orders every day, from America's top hospitals to countries as far flung as the United Arab Emirates. Researchers say the device, which costs less than $200, could help hospitals free up ventilators for only the most critically ill coronavirus patients.

"'Overwhelmed' doesn't scratch the surface," Austin told NBC News.

IMAGE: Sea-Long Medical Systems helmets
Sea-Long Medical Systems helmets resemble crude spacesuit helmets, with transparent hoods sealed at the neck and two tubes extending from the base.Sea-Long Medical Systems

The demand for the Sea-Long helmet underscores the dire shortage of ventilators in the U.S. and around the globe fueled by a surge in hospital patients suffering from COVID-19.

In the last few weeks, hospitals have been flooded with patients experiencing respiratory problems so severe they need the help of a machine to help them breathe.

Governors have made impassioned pleas for more equipment. Companies like General Motors and Ford have redesigned their assembly lines to produce the lifesaving devices. And hospital executives are scrambling to snap up any equipment that might help ease the escalating crisis playing out inside their facilities.

The Sea-Long device doesn't look the part of a lifesaving medical device. It resembles a crude spacesuit helmet, with a transparent hood sealed at the neck and two tubes extending from its base. The helmet was originally designed to supply oxygen to patients receiving treatment in hyperbaric chambers.

But doctors in Italy, where a version of the helmet has long been used to treat people experiencing breathing problems, found it to be effective in helping some COVID-19 patients.

Dr. Bhakti Patel, who has been studying the devices for four years, said they hold promise as an early intervention that could spare respiratory patients the need to be put on the more traditional — and costly and invasive — ventilators.

"I would love for there to be a silver bullet for this pandemic," said Patel, a pulmonologist at the University of Chicago. "My best hope is that the way it changes the game is that maybe it shaves off the number of patients who need a ventilator — even if it's 1 out of 3 or 1 out of 5."

"If that is the case," Patel added, "that would be a game changer when we're seeing this tidal wave of patients who need a ventilator."

Full coverage of the coronavirus outbreak

Patel led a first-of-its-kind study in 2016 that tested the Sea-Long helmet against an oxygen mask for a group of 83 intensive care patients suffering from acute respiratory distress. The researchers found that the helmet led to superior outcomes: Patients using them required ventilation 18.2 percent of the time, compared to 61.5 percent for the masks, and had a better 90-day survival rate, according to the study, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

The trial was stopped early because the helmets proved more effective than the masks, resulting in a smaller sample size than originally intended. But Patel believes the device could lead to a sea change in intensive care units that have long relied on traditional ventilators. Those devices require doctors to fully sedate patients and insert a tube into their windpipes, a process that can cause pneumonia and other problems when used for extended periods of time.

"If we take away the ventilator — which comes with this package of sedating people, making them not move, making them sort of not have memory of what's happening — perhaps we could spare some patients some long-term complications," Patel said.

At $162 apiece, the Sea-Long helmet costs a tiny fraction of the five-figure ventilators.

The original devices were made to run through ventilators. But working with Patel and her mentor, Dr. John Kress, Sea-Long has modified the helmets so they can be hooked up to a hospital's regular oxygen supply, keeping the ventilators free for those who need them most. They have also made another significant modification, adding a viral filter to prevent possible COVID-19 exposure to others.

This week, the team at the University of Chicago Medical Center used the helmet on one coronavirus patient and has gotten encouraging results, Kress said. The facility has received 20 of an expected 100 helmets and is planning to use them on additional patients, the doctors said.

Other companies make similar ventilator helmets, but Sea-Long's is the only helmet available in the U.S. that meets requirements of the Food and Drug Administration and has been validated in a clinical study for acute respiratory syndrome. No studies have yet been done, however, examining the effectiveness of the devices in treating COVID-19 patients.

Austin's team has been working around the clock for the past several weeks. The workforce has at least doubled to more than 10 people, Austin said, and volunteers have been showing up in droves.

"We have people showing up that we don't even know that say: 'We're here to help. What can we do?'" Austin said. "They don't ask for anything. They don't expect anything. They just say, 'Whatever you want me to do, we'll do it.'"

"It just about brings tears to my eyes," Austin added.

The attention has led to some other acts of extraordinary generosity.

Austin said he recently got a surprised call from Virgin Galactic CEO George Whitesides offering to help him produce more devices.

"Chris, I saw what you do, and we want to help," Whitesides said, according to Austin. "Whatever it takes."

Austin told him he needed more machines to manufacture the devices but didn't have the cash to pay for them. Later that day, Austin got a call from his New Jersey-based supplier.

"Somebody just paid your bill," Austin said he was told. "They'll be shipping tomorrow."

With the four additional machines, Sea-Long expects to produce thousands of helmets a week. The goal is to produce 50,000 per week.

"This is the classic sort of American story," Patel said. "It's the little engine that could."

Download the NBC News app for full coverage and alerts about the coronavirus outbreak

James Vanderploeg, Virgin Galactic's chief medical officer, said the company is working with Sea-Long "to help them expand their capacity, helping with recruiting additional people and getting equipment in place and helping with the logistics and so forth — anything we can do to help them expand their throughput." Virgin Galactic is also modeling potential prototypes for its own design of helmets used for ventilation, Vanderploeg said.

Major U.S. medical centers are now stocking up on the helmets, including Massachusetts General Hospital and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Austin said he's also received orders from Canada, Mexico and several countries in Europe, including hard-hit Italy.

A Mass General spokesperson said the hospital has ordered five Sea-Long helmets but has not yet received them.

A Penn Health spokesperson confirmed that the hospital has ordered the devices.

With so much of the world in need and so many orders coming in at once, Austin has faced a difficult question: Whom to prioritize?

"We really look at where is the need," Austin said. "We know New York has a stronger need. We know Boston. We know Chicago. ... But we also know that we have to get what we can to Italy."

For now, the company is shipping only a limited number helmets per order, "because we still can't afford the volume of a huge order," he said.

Amid the worsening pandemic, Sea-Long isn't planning to raise the price in part because it doesn't want to limit who has access to the devices.

"This probably sounds sappy," Austin said, "but we think of what if that was our son or daughter or grandfather sitting there in that bed gasping for air and we have to explain to him: 'I'm sorry. We don't have anything for you.'"

Christine Romo and Brenda Breslauer contributed.

Strategy going forward, as I see it:

  1. Social distancing continued
  2. Testing once a week required to catch up on amount of testing not done on the front end, and too, need to know where we are numerically and what is being shown in our numbers - number and type of recovered undocumented cases, etc.
  3. Continue mass reproduction of masks, gowns, gloves, regular ventilators, and ventilator helmets
  4. Bring together the greatest think tanks in the U.S. and tell them, everybody put your brain on it. It does better if they are brought together collectively, but streaming can work as well. If you had enough masks, etc. then they could be brought together. (We almost need a spacesuit for each of the thinktank members, don't we? I wish.)
  5. Most importantly, everybody pray to GOD and do not leave out the thanksgiving and praise. Put your heart into it. (Psalm 105:1-5)

To those thinking, "Well, maybe we can take a break and ease up with the advent of the warm weather..." No sir and no ma'am! You cannot afford to lose the chance to gain ground on this pandemic, no siree. Just you remember the warm months may be your way to get in front of this thing because we are hitting it with a 1,2,3, until the Knockout Punch! And never forget WHO is making winning possible, GOD, our FATHER.

Well, for what it is worth, that is my take on our situation, folks. Now, I will go find a bite to eat. Be blessed.
